The Snow Gear Song

How many times have you seen a child attempt to put their snow gear on by themselves, only to have them put their boots on first? The Snow Gear Song was created to help young children remember which order to put their snow gear on so they could get ready to go outside independently.

Students in the Fairbanks North Star Borough go outside to recess down to -20 Fahrenheit. I have my students put the gloves on last so that they are able to zip their coats up on their own first. While this song can be sung to any tune, I taught it to the tune of Frère Jacques.

This book teaches children:

• To put snow gear on in the most optimal order

• To independently get ready for outdoor play

• To hang up their gear before moving on to the next activity
